Becoming My Own…Now Where Is My Mommy?
Chapter Seven of the text was particularly interesting as it depicts the evolution of an infant from a mere helpless creature, into a personality filled little person. As this little person’s personality is developing however, attachments form with those who brought them into the world and are demonstrated through the separation and stranger anxiety that is experienced by the child at various stages. For example, my son Noble, upon learning to smile, smiled at most anything or anybody. Now however, he is more selective, smiling when I walk into his room in the morning, but not immediately at the cashier at the local grocery store. He is also more playful and interested in exploring the world around him, after of course looking to me for reassurance that he is safe and free to do so. Â
