Before It Gets Weird…
Middle childhood, in my opinion, is the golden era of life. In infancy and early childhood, we are only emerging. In adolescence we are angst ridden and in adulthood we are all grown up. In middle childhood however, we begin to form friendships of varied facets, on trust. We are also learning and beginning to understand who we are, which leaves the rest of our lives ahead to evolve into the person we hope to become. Middle childhood is also the time which our self esteem develops, either positively or negatively. For this reason also, it is imperative that future educators understand the importance of assisting with the formation of positive self esteem, as it is a self concept that will last a lifetime.
